Mdm/Mnsr

In the boulangeries throughout Montpellier, there was always the Croque Monsieur - the much lionised French ham and cheese sandwich. I first came across the Croque Monsieur/Croque Madame in a local cafĂ© where I had held a part time position in, but I never got the difference. The distinction is solely and simply a fried egg, that goes on top of the sandwich. In Marseille when we took a rest at McDonalds, I had tried a McDo - McDonald's version of the Croque Monsieur. It turned out to be just a slice of ham and single cheese between two friends of Hotcakes. Today, I took a shot at the Croque Madame: Crispy ham, an overdose of cheese, a toasted sandwich. I only wish I was better at the sunny side up. x
